Made from 20 sheets of acid-free card stock within hard covers sealed with polyurethane.
5 illustrated panels, each in 4 nested accordion-folded layers. Original ink drawings, paper handcut with x-acto knife. Signed and dated.

"The Heart Never Sleeps" was created during my month-long art residency in Kristinestad/ Kristinakaupunki, Finland in August of 2019. Kiristinestad is a magical little shipbuilding town on the marshes near the Baltic Sea. It is very far north in Europe, at about the same latitude as Alaska. During my August there, the days were very, very long; the sun would set at 11pm and rise at 4am. It affected me, I had trouble sleeping. But I though about how certain parts and functions of our bodies never sleep, never stop, the heart being one of them. I messaged my mom to send my school photos to work from to show myself through the ages. The center image is me in kindergarden, others are from different grades through high school. We grow and change, our hearts keep pumping, our lungs keep breathing within our rib cages.

This form is called a carousel book because it can be positioned in the round, or display open standing upright, face up on a table. Closes fully to store away in your library. Includes two sleek display stands for front-facing and in-the-round.
